3 cases of post-stroke depression by auriculoacupuncture and supportive therapy

Abstract
Poststroke depression is one of the commenly occured complication after stroke, it¢¥s not only common but also under-recognized cause of suffering after stroke. It was supposed that the lack of awareness of those at risk for poststroke depression combined with the lack of information about depression in stroke patients could be the reason for this neglect. Poststroke depression is associated with poorer stroke recoery and increased mortalities. It has the negative impact of clinically diagnosed depression on recovery in activities from stroke. The depression symptom severity was associated with greater physical disabilities among depressed patients. In the current situation that little evidence is available about the effectiveness of various treatment for poststroke depression, we chose the auriculoacupuncture and supportive therapy. The patients with an hospital diagnosis of depression were significantly more impaired in physical activities more than non-depressed patients. Using 3 inpatients of depression after a single left or right-hemisphere stroke, we investigated the efficacy of auriculoacupuncture and supportive therapy. The patients were clinically examined to have no psychiatric past historty before stroke, no other physical disease followed by depression except stroke, and the presence and the type of depression were evaluated, Neuropsychological evaluation were performed.
Auriculoacupuncture is the way to use the ear microsystem for treatment. We could access almost every part of bodily anatomy by using the ear. It has positive effent on treating psychological disease such as poststroke depression as it could also adjust hormone and neurotransmitter levels in the body and brain. Moreover, it is comparatively simple to handle for both physician and patients and besides non-invasive.
Supportive therapy is the psychotherapeutic approach employed with mentally ill person.
We get significantly positive effect from the way chosen. This study emphasizes the need for early recognition and the treatment of poststroke depression. however, additional studies are needed to gain a better profile of these patients and explore potential treatment modalities.
